Welcome to our help and support page. We will soon be adding more information to help Calderdale’s older people find help & support. In the meantime, on the right of this page are all the news stories with help and support issues in them.

Accessing local healthcare services

Over 60s Support Service
Together Housing are now providing a FREE OF CHARGE Older Persons Support Service across Calderdale to anyone in Calderdale aged 60 and over. You do not have to be a Together Housing tenant to receive their support! Their team of Housing Support Officers provide FREE support, assistance, and advice to help customers live happy independent lives in their own homes.

Charity OPAAL UK provide some excellent free resources for older people and those that are supporting them.

These include easy-to-use free checklists to enable positive conversations on important issues. You can download free copies and feel free to share!

Fire Safety at Home
West Yorkshire Fire Service provide lots of help to keep your home safe from fire inlcuding Safe & Well Visits, fire safety quizzes and helpful leaflets.

Access Bus
AccessBus is a dial-a-ride bus service providing door-to-door local transport, seven days a week between 9am and 5pm. It is of particular benefit to people who are unable to use standard bus services, as the driver assists passengers from door-to-door, including boarding and alighting. The buses are fully accessible, fitted with seatbelts and the most up-to-date wheelchair restraints. Anyone of any age can register for AccessBus.

Yorkshire Water’s Priority Services Register
Yorkshire Water’s Priority Services Register is free to sign-up to and supports customers who may be in ‘vulnerable’ circumstances, whether these circumstances are temporary or permanent.

Halifax Society for the Blind
The Society provide a Sight Loss Resource Centre in Halifax where you can browse a wide range of sight loss equipment and get information and advice from their trained Sight Support Advisors.  They also run a range of activities for people with sight loss including social group meetings and groups targeted at specific interests e.g. Bowling, Working Age group and a Teen’s group. Healthy Minds Calderdale
Healthy Minds provides mental health and wellbeing services to adults (and young people) in Calderdale.  Services include: peer-support groups, activity groups, workshops and courses, one-to-one emotional support, welfare rights advice, support for BAME communities, volunteering and young person’s support.
