CARE ACT: Is It Happening?

The Care Act 2014: How do you know your Council is Successfully Embedding the Care Act?

The lengthy document available to download at the end of this article, is aimed at councillors and other senior local leaders and provides them with guidance on how to tell if their councils are successfully including the main aims of the Care Act in local programmes.

The document suggests that local authorities should be able to answer a number of questions, such as, how is the council incorporating the requirement to promote people’s wellbeing into assessments and decisions about care and support? Is there an effective working relationship between the council and health colleagues in Clinical Commissioning Groups, provider organisations and the health and wellbeing board around the duties of the Act? Are all council departments working in a coordinated way to contribute to prevention work? Are they confident that care visits are of an appropriate length and quality? These are just examples.
