2026-09-12 | Heritage Open Days – Todmorden Hippodrome Theatre Archive

12 SEPTEMBER: The Todmorden Hippodrome was built in 1908 as a traditional vaudeville theatre. Come and see our theatre’s new extension, its extensive archive collection of photographs, artefacts, costumes , which charts its history, custodians and performers.

The Todmorden Hippodrome Theatre sits in Edwardian splendour in our Pennine mill town and has been run entirely by volunteers since the 1950s. This beautiful building still has its original auditorium and proscenium arch. Todmorden Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society have been custodians of our glorious theatre for over 70 years. In that time, we have created a foyer installed an accessible toilet, designed and built a private bar in a neighbouring shop, refurbished our original circle seating and commissioned new stall seating, and bounced back from several major floods.

Join us on Heritage Open Day to dive deep into our archive of photographs, videos, and memorabilia (including a selection of props and costumes), and meet our dedicated members.

Our theatre family will be on duty all day to chat, reminisce or serve you hot drinks and sweet treats in our new Foyer.
