Age Friendly Calderdale is the movement working to ensure Calderdale is an age friendly place where people have strong social networks and live in vibrant communities.
The movement is led by the Calderdale Ageing Well Alliance. The Alliance is a collaboration between statutory and voluntary organisations in Calderdale.
Age Friendly Calderdale is challenging negative stereotypes about ageing by supporting people and organisations to be more age-inclusive and to promote age friendly practices. Age friendly practices relate to positive employment and later-life training, better homes, and access to safe & vibrant communities.
Age Friendly Calderdale is a member of the UK Network of Age Friendly Communities, part of a global movement led by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Age Friendly Communities have been developed from evidence of what supports healthy and active ageing in communities.

We are creating an Age Friendly Calderdale Network that will seek to:
- Champion the voices of those aged 50 plus
- Provide a supportive and empowering place to share ideas and develop priorities for making Calderdale an Age Friendly Community.
- Provide opportunities to get together, share experience and work on projects that enable us all to age well.
- Challenge ageism.

Age Friendly Calderdale is building a directory of local retailers and businesses who are Age-Friendly. We’ll then help spread the word amongst Calderdale’s over-50 population. Find out more and sign your business up to our Age-Friendly directory.

Age without Limits Celebration Events
Micro grants for Age without Limits Celebration events in June have been made available and the application process closed 1 February 2026. Further details of the events will be publicised in due course.

Running in conjunction with the International Day of Older People activities, during October 2025, Age Friendly Calderdale ran another Ageing Well Survey to find out more about belonging and what supports social connections for older people in our communities.
The results will be published shortly.
