£400 Grants Available To Host Older People Day Events

International Day of Older People: A month of celebrations: 1st – 31st October 2026

This year’s UK theme for the International Day of Older People is What’s on Your Doorstep? The theme celebrates the people, places and services that help us to stay active and connected in our communities, while also shining a light on the barriers that can make them harder to access.

Could You Host An Event?

Age Friendly Calderdale would like community and voluntary groups to get creative and host an activity or event that connects people aged 50 plus with local opportunities to meet others.

Grants of up to £400 are available for groups working with people aged 50 plus to organise a celebratory event or activity that is accessible to older people, their carers, family and friends.

Ideas for events and activities that help older people discover what’s on their doorstep and strengthen local connections might include arts workshops, cooking & baking, crafting, movement & dance, music & singing, sports, theatre, writing and poetry – this list goes on!

The deadline for applications is Friday 4th September 2026.
