IT/Computer/Internet Support In Libraries

A range of help with computers, IT and the internet are available in Calderdale’s libraries – full details below:

Central Library Halifax

Activity: Volunteer led 1:1s
When: Tuesdays between 2&5pm and Thursdays between 2 & 5pm

Customers can book up to three fifty-minute sessions with a volunteer, who will coach them in basic IT use.  The content of sessions varies depending on the needs and level of the individual customer.  Subjects offered include; basic IT (using a keyboard and mouse), setting up and using email, using tablets & smartphones, using MicroSoft Office, searching and navigating the Internet. Sessions are free to attend but must be pre-booked with a member of Info Services staff:

Elland Library

Activity: Coffee and ITea
When: Thursday mornings, between 10.30am &12 noon

The idea is that the customer drops in for a tea/ coffee and a chat with a member of staff, if they have any IT related queries.  They can also book a 30-minute taster session with a member of staff, if they need help with mastering basic IT.  These sessions are mainly for absolute beginners who just need a bit of extra help and encouragement with mastering basic IT.
Customers can drop in initially, if they just have a quick IT related query but can also book a 30 minute session if they need 1:1 tuition. Sessions are delivered free of charge.

Computers – What’s Available

Public Wi-Fi
This is available across all 12 Calderdale Libraries.
Corporate (Council) Wi-Fi
This can be used by any member of Calderdale Council staff and is available in libraries that are designated touchdown points. These are:
– Beechwood Road
– Brighouse
– Elland
– Todmorden

Staff can also use staff toilets and refreshment facilities whilst on site.
*Please note that Akroyd is only staffed on a Tuesday and some Thursdays, and operates on a self-service basis the rest of the time.
