THE HALIFAX GODFATHER OF ROLLS-ROYCE
The man who introduced Rolls to Royce in 1904 was a native of Halifax, and a remarkable character in his own right. Henry Edmunds invented and patented many devices, and was fascinated by the emerging use of electric light, and of the telephone. Travelling to the USA, he met Edison and Bell, and brought back plans for the Graphophone, an instrument later used to record the voice of Queen Victoria. He also became a pioneer of the motor-car in Britain.
