Age UK have published a new report which looks at how older people are managing during the first winter after Winter Fuel Payment reform.
It outlines the impact of the July 2024 changes to the Winter Fuel Payment (WFP). Based on a survey of 2,575 UK adults aged 66 and over, findings highlight rising concern over energy costs, with 41% reducing heating usage and 33% expressing worries about the potential health impacts. The briefing recommends extending WFP eligibility, increasing pension benefit uptake, introducing an energy social tariff, and prioritising support for those in cold, damp homes.
