Blog: Be Active – Supporting Health, Wellbeing and Independence

Another great blog from our partner Anchor, who run a number of care homes in Calderdale.

Be Active: Supporting Health, Wellbeing and Independence

Looking after our health and wellbeing is important at every stage of life. At Anchor, our Be Active wellness and movement programme supports older people living with us to stay active, connected and engaged, while making small changes that can have a positive impact on everyday wellbeing.

Be Active is designed to support overall health and wellbeing, while helping people maintain mobility and independence. Through regular movement and exercise, the programme focuses on areas such as strength, coordination and balance, helping residents to feel confident and enjoy staying active in ways that work for them.

We know that being active doesn’t have to mean making big changes. Simple activities and gentle movement can easily become part of everyday routines and Be Active provides a range of resources to help make this accessible and enjoyable.

Ways to Be Active

Live exercise sessions

Residents can join multiple live exercise sessions each week via Microsoft Teams, with a variety of instructors and exercises to enjoy. Sessions last between 30 and 40 minutes and require no equipment, making them easy to take part in.

Weekly email reminders are also available, including the Teams link for each session.

Exercise routine videos

Our video channel features a range of pre-recorded exercise routines that can be enjoyed at home or within our care homes. From yoga and Tai Chi to inclusive dance and 10 Today, there are activities to suit different interests and abilities.

Whether you’re looking to improve your strength, flexibility or balance, there’s something to help you get moving.

Be Active podcasts

Prefer to listen rather than watch? Our Be Active podcast series provides helpful information and ideas for staying active and well. Covering a variety of topics, the podcasts are an easy way to learn more about health and wellbeing wherever you are.

Be Active booklets

For those who prefer something they can pick up and use at their own pace, we have three Be Active booklets available on request. They include standing and chair-based exercises, as well as practical tips for staying active and healthy and information about the benefits of fitness.

Small steps can make a difference

Be Active is about finding enjoyable and achievable ways to build movement and wellbeing into everyday life. Whether it’s taking part in a live exercise session, trying a new activity, listening to a podcast or simply incorporating more movement into your daily routine, every small step can contribute to a healthier and more active lifestyle.
