17 NOVEMBER: John, the last Lister of Shibden Hall and Estate – a talk to the Halifax Antiquarian Society by Christine Booth
John Lister helped found Halifax Antiquarian Society. He was its first president and an editor. He was a philanthropist and politician. Politically he changed from Liberal views to Labour. He was caught up in a political brawl in Brighouse! John’s main interests were in historical research and support for education. One result was having two historic properties re-erected on his estate, and having an Industrial School for boys built on the estate. Plus what amazing results from John’s cracking of a code!
When: Tuesday 17 November at 7.30pm.
Where: The Maurice Jagger Centre, Winding Road, Halifax
You can join the Halifax Antiquarian Society and support their work or attend occasionally.
