HEARTBEAT: Brighouse Heart Support Group

About HEARTBEAT
HEARTBEAT aims to create an environment where people with heart problems or conditions and their carers can interact on a like-for-like basis with people with similar problems and experiences to help them rebuild their confidence and enjoy life to the full.

Current Activities
We run exercise and Tai Chi Classes using professional instructors with BACR or other appropriate qualifications.  Tai Chi on Tuesdays at 9.30am and 10.30am and Exercise Classes on Thursdays at 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am and 6.30pm.  All at Brighouse Sports Club.

We also run regular walks and short walks for members, with 10 trained walk leaders.  All trustees and walk leaders have been DBS checked and have First Aid qualifications.


There is a calendar of over 36 social events a year for the benefit of members, their carers, family and friends: subject to availability.

In addition we have Exercise videos on YouTube and issue by email or post regular updates for our members including: NHS/BHF briefings; Yorkshire Trading Standards Scam Alerts; Government Guidance and data; HEARTBEAT activities.

 

How To Get Involved
HEARTBEAT is open to anyone aged over 18 living in West Yorkshire who is eligible to join after NHS Phase 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation, follow on from BETTER LIVING or direct if you meet the criteria and our membership form has been signed by your GP or Practice Nurse.

We also take people at risk of a cardiac event or those with at least one of the following; Diabetes types 1 or 2, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, overweight (BMI greater than 25), have had a cardiac event or have a cardiac condition: even if controlled by medication or diet.

The annual Membership fee, due in June, is £5 to covers our admin costs. Membership of Brighouse Sports Club, Social Section, along with its benefits, is included in your annual HEARTBEAT membership.

 

 

Exercise and Tai Chi classes cost £2.50. Walks are free. Social events range
from free (quiz nights etc at Brighouse Social Club) to the actual cost of Trips, Dinners, Lunches etc.
