A New Network Putting Older People at the Heart of Calderdale

Calderdale is taking an important step towards becoming a truly age-friendly place to live, work and thrive — and older people are leading the way.

A new Age Friendly Network for Calderdale is being launched to bring together residents, community groups, businesses, and public services with one shared goal: making Calderdale a place where people are socially connected and can age well in healthy, vibrant communities.

Developed by the Ageing Well Alliance in partnership with Calderdale Forum 50 Plus, and Age UK Calderdale & Kirklees, the network builds on the proven success of Age Friendly Communities across the UK — where older people’s voices play a central role in shaping local priorities.

We are already the borough’s largest community group and online newspaper for people aged over 50 and play a vital role in sharing trusted information on key later-life issues such as health, housing, safety, and finance, while connecting people to local clubs, services, and events.

Through regular bi-monthly meetings, we provide a space where older people can speak openly about what matters to them — and now, with added support from the Ageing Well Alliance, it is expanding that role even further.

What the Age Friendly Network Will Do

The new network will bring together residents, community groups, businesses, and public services, to:

Updates, news, and opportunities will be shared widely through our website, newsletters and social media, helping to reach and involve as many people as possible.

A Community Shaped by Experience

At its heart, the Age Friendly Network is about recognising the value of lived experience. By working together, Calderdale can become a place where people not only live longer, but live better — staying connected, informed and involved.

Everyone has a role to play in making Calderdale age friendly — and this new network is an open invitation to be part of that change.
