Halifax Society for the Blind have put together a varied programme of activities and support groups for the new year for people with a visual impairment.
All events take place at their centre at 7 Southgate Halifax HX1 1DL unless otherwise indicated.
Mondays
Coffee and Chat from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at the Brighouse Rest Centre, Park Row, Brighouse HD6 1AB. £2 per person.
Come along for a coffee and a chat and enjoy games and activities.
Wednesdays
1. Breakfast Group 10am to 12pm at the Halifax centre including:
8th January –Companion Group. This is a peer support group for friends/family or carers of people with a Visual Impairment
15th January– Guide Dog Group. This is a group for past, present and future guide dog owners .
22nd January– Focus Group. This month we are going to be focusing on Macular Degeneration.
2. Knit and Natter from 12pm to 2pm.
A drop in group within the Social Engagement Café. Bring along your latest knitting project and join us for a brew and a natter.
3. Coffee and Chat from 2pm to 4pm. Charge £2 per person.

Thursdays
SocialEyes from 10.30am to 2pm.
On 9th January there will be a special session “Coiners of Southgate.”
Do you struggle with identifying coins and notes when paying for shopping? Come along and find out some tips and tricks to make it easier. Afterwards enjoy listening to the story of the infamous coiners of Cragg Vale before enjoying lunch of vegetable soup and baked apple with cinnamon and custard.

16th January – Crafty Creation
This session is all about creativity and learning new skills. It is more than just a craft session, it is a chance to get inspired and connect with others who share a love for handmade, thoughtful creations. Lunch will be Tuna Pasta Bake and cherry pie and custard.
23rd January 2025 – Spring into Action
Time to grab your gardening gloves, trowels and bulbs as we cast of the winter blues and prepare for new life and springtime. Come along and plant some bulbs and look forward to these little packages of sunshine exploding into colour! Lunch will be Jacket potato, followed by jam doughnuts.
30th January 2025 – Cookie Creation: Bake and Bond
Join us for a fun and interactive cookie class! Our talented Sue Mort will guide you step by step through the process. Spend a delightful few hours turning flour , sugar, butter and creativity into delicious magic! Lunch will be meat and potato pie followed by lemon cheesecake.
Inbetweeners
6pm to 8pm on the 4th Thursday of every month. January’s Inbetweeners will be on Thursday 23rd January at 7 Southgate. Join us for a pub quiz, there will be prizes. £5 per person.
Fridays
Bowling Group. 11am onwards at Electric Bowl, Halifax.
Join the Peaky Blinders every Friday for a game or two of traditional tenpin bowling. For more information please contact the office.
