There’s a packed programme at the Square Chapel in the next few weeks. Just two of the highlights are a tribute show to Victoria Wood and a visit by the Unthanks:
19th January Looking For Me Friend – 7:00pm | Red Brick Auditorium
A funny and touching tribute to this much loved and sorely missed national treasure. Written and performed by BBC1’s All Together Now star, Paulus, (‘King of Cabaret’, The Stage) this brand-new show sees him in a fresh light as a lifelong fan and devotee of the Queen of Comedy. Celebrate her unforgettable characters, songs and sketches and the power of friendships forged through laughter. From Mrs. Overall to Barry & Freda, everyone is there. The only thing that’s missing is you. Directed by Sarah-Louise Young (An Evening Without Kate Bush) and with Michael Roulston (Fascinating Aida) on the piano.

The Unthanks return to live touring after two years off the road, showcasing forthcoming new album, Sorrows Away, alongside favourites such as Magpie, The King Of Rome and Mount The Air. Since the release of BBC Folk Album of the Year, Mount The Air in 2015, The Unthanks have both scaled up to symphonic levels with Charles Hazelwood and the BBC Proms, and stripped down to the unaccompanied singing they grew up with, for Diversions Vol 5. They’ve written six scarecrow soundtracks for Mackenzie Crook’s beautiful adaptation of Worzel Gummidge, while finding time to interpret the work of female writers including Emily Bronte, Molly Drake and Maxine Peake.
