Halifax memory game for people with dementia: Our Time and Place

Phoenix FM, our local community radio service has launched a memory game in partnership with Calderdale Forum 50 Plus to help people with dementia to revisit their past.

Our Time and Place Halifax is a board game for people with memory loss or dementia.  It is ideal for playing in small groups at social gatherings and companionship cafes or at home with family and friends.

Players move around the board, landing on squares and picking up cards, each of which provide memory prompts to facilitate conversation and the sharing of memories of times past.

Howard Priestley, Volunteer Manager at Phoenix FM said:

“I came up with the idea for a game as a way of supporting people who were beginning to lose memory because of the onset of Dementia. I have always been passionate about local history and saw this as a unique opportunity to put together a way of showcasing history that is in peoples’ living memory. Since then it has proved a great way of getting families working together, with younger family members learning about their own family history in a fun way”

Priced at £19.99 the games make an ideal Christmas or birthday present for anyone starting to experience memory loss.  And great for groups that are looking for new games and activities for their members.

They can be ordered by emailing sales@phoenixfm.co.uk or calling 01422 365923.

Our Time and Place Halifax has received funding from The National Lottery
