The VSI Alliance, who co-ordinate and support a lot of volunteer activity in Calderdale, are looking for new volunteers in the Calderdale Lower Valley area to help with Covid19 recovery work, helping the most vulnerable in our communities.
VSI Alliance Volunteer Hub is a group of volunteers responding to the needs of people still feeling the effect of Covid19. They are assisting people who are isolating by delivering food parcels, completing shopping, walking dogs, prescription delivery, posting and other errands they may need help with.
Volunteers have also been assisting at vaccination centres and helped at Calderdale College’s rapid testing programme. Volunteers helped Calderdale Healthy Holiday programme this summer delivering meals and activity packs to kids holiday groups across Calderdale, and plans to help with the Christmas healthy holidays programme later in the year. All of these tasks have been hugely beneficial to those who may otherwise have been left with no support during this continued challenging time.
The volunteer hub relies on community spirit and people who have the capacity to give their time to help others who need short term support.
Volunteers receive requests for support in their area and are asked based on what they have said they can do for people. They operate delivering shopping and food parcels 6 days a week but during the week is their busiest time.
As people have returned to work we have lost a number of volunteers and are finding it harder to reach demand, particularly in the lower valley and North Halifax area.
If you are able to give some time to those in your area please contact Kate Hornby, Volunteer Hub Coordinator on email@example.com.
