Lockdown restrictions eased for most vulnerable

From today, 1 June the lockdown restrictions in place for the most vulnerable people has been eased.

Vulnerable people in England who have been asked to remain at home (or shield) since the coronavirus lockdown began will be able to go outdoors again from Monday 1 June. Those with families will be able to go out once a day with members of their household.

People living alone can meet one other person from another household while maintaining social distancing. The guidance – in place for 10 weeks – had originally indicated shielding measures would remain until 30 June,

People in the shielded category remain at risk and have been advised to leave the house only once a day. They should not go to work or the shops and should avoid crowded places where they cannot social distance. The advice to people in the shielded group will be reviewed again later this month.

Support for shielded people, including deliveries of food parcels and medicines will continue.
