FLOODS: Consultation on strategy

Draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy Consultation

Calderdale Council, as a lead Local Flood Authority, has a legal duty under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 to “develop, maintain, apply and monitor” a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy. To this end, they are currently running a consultation to gather views on the draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy for Calderdale.

This draft Strategy is a tool to help understand and manage flood risk within Calderdale. Its principal aims are to tackle local flood risk including flooding from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses. However, in Calderdale flooding from Main Rivers, canals and reservoirs create complex and interconnected sources of flooding, so this Strategy considers all flooding.

The draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy sets out priority relative objectives, measures and actions for:

  • Building a better understanding of flood risk issues.
  • Taking steps to reduce flood risk in Calderdale.
  • Developing schemes that will manage residual flood risk.
  • Being better prepared for flood events.
