Community Connections are looking for Befriending Volunteers in Elland & Surrounding areas! Do you have just 1 free hour each week, to visit an older person local to you, for friendly conversation and companionship.
We all know what it’s like to feel lonely from time to time, but facts show that around 1 million older people regularly go an entire month without speaking to anyone and their only form of company being the TV.
When you’re older it can become much harder to stay in touch, particularly if you’re widowed, have lost good friends or your family live far away. By visiting someone who feels lonely and out of touch, every week can be so beneficial for their well-being and also extremely rewarding for you, the volunteer. Plus as summer is approaching I’m sure older people would love support to sit in the garden for some fresh air.
