LGBT: New Monthly Social Group

Over The Rainbow is a social group for older (50+) lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people who live in Calderdale. They get together every month in the afternoon for a brew and natter, activities and company. The group is open to anyone living in Calderdale and meets in an accessible venue in Todmorden.

Over the Rainbow aims to reduce social isolation and improve the social well-being and mental health of older LGBT people. They hope to achieve this by providing a safe meeting place for LGBT people aged 50+ in Calderdale to meet regularly in an accessible building; organising occasional trips and events; linking with other groups; having a private Facebook page for those on the internet to facilitate discussions outside group meetings; encouraging members to take an active role in developing a programme of social activities including films, quizzes, discussions, presentations.

Members take responsibility for planning an exciting programme of activities as well as making time for a brew and a chat. Some of the topics have included: Male and Female Brains; Local History and LGBTs; Relationships; Meditation and Relaxation; First Female Mounted Police; Desert Island Discs.

Members can also volunteer to meet and greet new members, and keep the Facebook page up to date. Over the Rainbow is a social group and members are encouraged to access Age UK Todmorden and Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees for help with any support, advice and information needs and to access a range of mainstream services.

The group meets on the first Saturday of the month 1.00pm to 4.00pm at Todmorden Library.
