Calderdale Forum 50 Plus’s annual general meeting took place on Tuesday 24 November 2015. As well as the formalities of the organisation’s AGM, the day also included an open event attended by a wide range of organisations and members of the public.
With a bus service from central Halifax, the event, which was hosted at the Shay Stadium, was busy throughout as attendees enjoyed a number of presentations, free lunch and a chance ot socialize, network and relax.
Indeed, many mentioned the relaxed atmosphere, which contributed to a successful and enjoyable day.

The event was opened at 11am by the Deputy Mayor of Calderdale, Councillor Ferman Ali, who was accompanied by the Deputy Mayoress of Calderdale, Mrs Shaheen Ali. There was also an opening address by Calderdale Forum 50 Plus chairman, Malcolm Kielty MBE, who then handed over to committee member, Mike Riley, who acted as MC for the remainder of the day.
The pre-lunch session included presentations by the Fire Service, who focused on their Winter Safety Campaign, Solicitors Armitage Sykes, who looked at the process of making a will, and Shantha Rao, of Annapurna Dance, who combined dancing, history and audience participation in enjoyable musical interlude.
Lunch was then taken in parallel with a local knowledge quiz that brought out the more competitive nature of some of the attendees.
The afternoon session was then opened by a very useful presentation by Calderdale Citizens’ Advice Bureau, focusing on Consumer and Welfare advice, including the art of switching energy providers.
It was then left to Halifax’s Phoenix Radio to bring the day to an end with an entertaining highlight package taken from their recent output.
Calderdale Forum 50 Plus would like to thank everyone who came along and helped to make the day a success, including the many exhibitors, the excellent presenters, the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Ferman Ali and Deputy Mayoress, Mrs Shaheen Ali and all the members of the public who attended.
