FREE: Home Energy Checks

Age UK  Calderdale and Kirklees is working with two energy companies E.ON and First Utility to support older people to keep safe and warm in winter. From September 2015 through to March 2016, the Handy man service will be able to carry out free home energy checks.

The aim of the checks is to deliver practical energy efficiency information and expert advice to older people. The project will enable older people to change energy use behaviour and benefit from small practical measures which could potentially reduce their energy bills whilst remaining warm and well in their own homes.

The home energy check will include

  • A thorough assessment of the clients circumstances, usage of energy, hot water system and insulation.
  • Give basic advice on how to keep warm and save energy.
  • Supply and install simple energy efficiency measures (draught excluders ,letter box brushes, radiator foil, sockets timers, remote control sockets and cold alarms)
  • Where applicable refer onto other Age UK and external services for further support.

To qualify for the Home Energy check you must be Over 65 and on low income (below £16,190 p.a and /or Over 65 and vulnerable (with a physical or mental disability, a medical condition ), or living in a hard to heat property.
