Words scammers use: “Won the Lottery”, “Highly Confidential”, “Guaranteed Winner”, “Unclaimed prize/award”; some even say “This is not a Scam”! Some claim to be your bank or building society, or the police. Some claim to be debt recovery companies, threatening court action for non-payment of a fictitious bill. Stay Scam-safe:
If you receive a “dazzling” letter, DO NOT respond and NEVER send cash, disclose personal details or buy goods to claim a prize.
If you receive a suspicious phone call:
- You don’t have to get into a discussion
- NEVER give out personal information. Say “no thank you, I am not interested” and hang up immediately
